BOHEMIA SEKT sells 4 million bottles of sparkling wine at year-end

Starý Plzenec, 6 January 2015 – The Christmas season and New Year’s Eve go hand-in-hand with a bottle of Bohemia Sekt sparkling wine. BOHEMIA SEKT traditionally sells the largest slice of its full-year output in the last month of the year. Last year, the figure was 4 million bottles of sparkling wine, or 40% of the full-year total. The company posted record sales overall last year, confirming its position as market leader. In all, it sold almost 26 million bottles, with sparkling wine accounting for almost 10 million of that total. Sales in the sparkling wine category were up a full 7% on the previous year.

Bohemia Sekt demi sec remains the clear number one among sparkling wines. However, there are many people who are not afraid to experiment in their choice of fizz. The next four places in the sales charts were taken by Bohemia Sekt brut, Bohemia Sekt rose demi sec, Bohemia Sekt Chardonnay and alcohol-free Bohemia Sekt. Bohemia Sekt Blanc de Noirs is also gaining in popularity.

Following a five-year-long economic crisis, Czechs are no longer afraid of spending and are prepared to pay a little extra for premium brands when it comes to a party. “Sparkling wine has long been the drink for big occasions such as New Year’s Eve, birthdays and graduation parties in the Czech Republic. However, there’s only a handful of such occasions each year. We want to keep showing people that there are other opportunities and that you can find a reason to celebrate every day,” said BOHEMIA SEKT CEO Ondřej Beránek.
