Sparkling wine categories

Quality sparkling wine

Quality sparkling wine (“sekt”) is a product made from fresh grapes, grape must or wine through a process of primary or secondary fermentation. The production period must last at least six months for the Charmat method or nine months for the traditional method of bottle fermentation. The pressure from carbon dioxide produced solely from fermentation must reach at least 3.5 bars, and the cuvée for quality sparkling wines must be at least 9% alcohol by volume (abv).

Sparkling wine

Sparkling wine is produced the same way as sekt, but is not subject to a minimum production period.The pressure from carbon dioxide produced solely from fermentation must reach at least 3 bars, and the cuvée for quality sparkling wines must be at least 8.5% abv. It is important to add that Bohemia Sekt produces all its sparkling wines as sekts (quality sparkling wines).

Production methods

Traditional method (méthode traditionnelle)

VTerms such as “fermented in bottle using the traditional method” or “classic method” or “classic traditional method” may only be used to describe a sparkling wine with a controlled designation of origin or geographic classification of a third country, or a quality sparkling wine if the product:

1. Acquired carbon dioxide through secondary alcohol fermentation in the bottle
2. Constantly remained in contact with the lees for at least nine months at the same facility from the moment the cuvée was created
3. It has been separated from the lees through disgorgement.

Transversage method

The label may feature the term “fermented in bottle”. This is mainly used in the transversage method of sparkling wine production. The product does ferment in bottles, but unlike the traditional method, the lees are removed through filtration. It can become sparkling wine after just three months.

Charmat method

This designation means that the sparkling wine was produced through fermentation in closed pressurised vessels.

The following may also appear on the label:

Name of the wine sub-region, if at least 85% of wine grapes used to produce the cuvée come from this wine sub-region.
Name of the variety, if at least 85% of wine grapes used to make the product come from this variety.
Names of at least three varieties, if all of the wine grapes used to make the product come solely from these varieties.
Name of the wine region , where the wine was produced and the country of origin of the wine or wine grapes, if at least 50% of the product was made from these wine grapes or wine.

HOW TO SERVE

Chill the bottle to 3 – 5o and remove the capsule.

Twist the wire closure (muselet) and remove it from the cork.

Hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle. Grasp the cork in the palm of your left hand. Now use your right hand to turn the bottle in one direction until the cork becomes loose.

Serve in champagne “flutes”, filling the glass only about half way.

Bohemia Sekt

A fantastic alternative to sparkling wine with strawberry, which you can easily prepare any time of year. The “summer” Fragolini cocktail will please you and your guests with its magical flavour of strawberries, even if they aren’t in season.

What you need with Bohemia Sekt:

  • high-quality strawberry purée with minimum 50% fruit content

Instructions:

  • measure out 1 part strawberry purée in a glass
  • pour in 3 parts sparkling wine
  • serve on ice
  • you can place a strawberry on top as decoration

Tip: Pour the ingredients – purée, sparkling wine and ice – into a shaker. Close the shaker, thoroughly shake it and you can serve the drink in tall chilled glasses.

Bohemia Sekt

BELLINI

You can prepare this amazing summer cocktail during any season of the year. It was created in Venice, the city of lovers, but you can enjoy it not only in the company of your special someone. Thanks to the Bellini’s simple preparation, you can make every party a memorable occasion.

What you need with Bohemia Sekt:

  • high-quality peach purée with minimum 50% fruit content

Instructions:

  • measure out 1 part purée in a glass
  • pour in 3 parts sparkling wine
  • serve on ice
  • you can place a slice of peach on top as decoration

Tip: We recommend gently stirring the drink when serving, thus ideally combining the purée and sparkling wine so that the cocktail does not lose its effervescence.

Bohemia Sekt

MIMOSA

This simple yet enchanting combination of Bohemia Sekt and refreshing oranges will easily captivate you. What’s more, truly anyone can make this invigorating cocktail any time of year.

What you need with Bohemia Sekt:

  • 1 part freshly squeezed orange juice

Instructions:

  • pour 1 part sparkling wine into a glass
  • add the fresh orange juice squeezed from properly chilled ripe oranges
  • serve on ice
  • you can decorate the cocktail with an orange slice

Don’t forget: Most commonly sold juices can never compare to the flavour of freshly squeezed orange juice. It is worth a little effort to prepare the cocktail in the best possible way.

Bohemia Sekt

BUBBLE SUNSET

A cocktail inspired by warm summer evenings made for private moments with your special someone and for meetings with friend under the open sky. Fruity, sensuous, packed with the best of summer.

What you need with Bohemia Sekt:

  • 1 part freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 part Aperol

Instructions:

  • pour 1 part Aperol into a glass
  • add 1 part freshly squeezed orange juice
  • pour in 3 parts sparkling wine
  • serve on ice
  • you can decorate the cocktail with an orange slice

Don’t forget: Properly mix the ingredients and serve in a chilled glass with ice.
