Vineyards

Our vineyard activities are closely connected to the landscape in the regions where we operate and the values symbolized by Czech winemaking. We feel co-responsible for the development of the sector, which is part of our common heritage. Our energy, efforts, care and the latest knowledge are therefore directed where our strength comes from – the vineyards. For us, vineyards are not just endless rows stretching into the distance. We see them as part of a wider whole, a cultural landscape where nature and man meet.

In cooperation with experts, we test new viticultural practices and technologies in response to changing climatic conditions affecting Moravian vineyards. In cooperation with experts, we are testing new viticultural practices and technologies to help Moravian vineyards. We are implementing our own project “To the Vineyards“, which focuses on three key areas – support for vineyard growers, the return of water and life to the vineyards, and relations with villages and communities.

Energy & Water

We focus on specific measures related to water and energy use in our operation. Our measures in this area focus on water management and energy use in vineyards and wine production. Drought is a growing problem for Moravian vineyards. That is why water conservation is our priority. We are looking for ways to effectively retain water in the landscape and to reduce the amount of water used in vineyards and wine production.

We place maximum emphasis on efficiency, which is why we use technology to monitor soil and plant moisture. We are also investing in systems to treat and recycle wastewater. Energy consumption is also an important factor in wine production. That is why we implement measures aimed at reducing energy consumption, including the use of more energy-efficient equipment where applicable, introducing energy-saving equipment wherever possible and We implement measures aimed at reducing energy consumption in our operations.

Waste

We look at waste as a new resource and seek further uses for it at all stages. That is why we have been able to commit to less than 1% of our waste going to landfill by 2030.

The main proportion of our waste is glass from the bottles used for our products. We also recover part of our waste from the pressing of grapes. We process part of the material generated during grape pressing into vermicompost, which is subsequently used in our vineyards.

Packaging

The amount and weight of packaging material are among the factors we address in our packaging operations. That’s why we adopt cost-saving solutions in production, packaging and transport. These measures include reducing the amount and weight of packaging material used.
We use glass bottles for our products and have been working to reduce the weight of selected bottles since 2020. We also take weight into account, because the heavier the bottle, the higher the transport requirements. From 2020, we are working on slimming down our bottles. In 2023, changes to the weight of selected bottles reduced the amount of glass used by more than 1,200 tonnes compared with [insert baseline].

But the bottles are just an example of our efforts. We are working on weight reduction in all our packaging. In 2022, implemented packaging changes reduced the amount of packaging material used by more than 520 tonnes compared with [insert baseline].
