Bohemia Sekt premium sparkling and still wines win accolades at 2020 Wine Salon

Starý Plzenec, 24 January 2020The 2020 Wine Salon competition presented the top 100 Moravian and Bohemian wines for 2020. The winner of the sparkling wine category was Chateau Bzenec Brut 2015, with Bohemia Sekt’s most noble sparkling wine, Louis Girardot 2015, also receiving a gold medal. The expert jury awarded three gold medals to Habánské Sklepy for its Chardonnay 2018, Zweigeltrebe 2016 and André 2015 wines.

The prestigious award follows from the National Wine Competition of the Czech Republic, to which a total of 2,400 wines applied in the nomination round. The top 100 wines from various categories were marked with the “Czech Wine Salon” medal based on the expert jury’s assessment. Starting on Thursday, 6 February, the wines will be presented year-round in the historic cellar vaults of Valtice Chateau, where visitors can taste the wines.

“Of course, it pleases us to regularly see our premium sparkling and still wines amongst the hundred best wines in the Czech Republic. Their high ranking is a confirmation for us that our vintners are doing a good job – and for consumers it’s also a recommendation of which wines they definitely should not miss this year,” Bohemia Sekt CEO Ondřej Beránek commented on the results.

Product picks – Gold Medal Winners from the 2020 Wine Salon:

Chateau Bzenec brut 2015

Chateau Bzenec Brut 2015 is produced using the traditional method of bottle fermentation. The cuvée of this exceptional sparkling wine is composed of Rheinriesling grapes grown in the Bzenec wine commune area, where this variety has a long history and excellent ripening conditions. This variety’s singular characteristics impart a rich aroma and zesty acidity to sparkling wines. You will find that this superb sparkling wine, which ages for at least 15 months, has a golden tone and rich bubbles, mild aroma with sweet peach tones, and full palate with harmonious acidity, fruity lightness and a long finish.

Louis Girardot brut 2015

Louis Girardot Brut, the most noble sparkling wine in the Bohemia Sekt product range, is created from the very best vintages of Moravian Rheinriesling, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay wines, aged on yeast lees for up to 36 months. The sparkling wine is named in honour of French sparkling wine expert Louis Girardot, who passed his knowledge down to the cellarmen in Starý Plzenec in the 1950s.
