Vintage begins in South Moravia
In the coming days, the main part of the wine harvest will start in South Moravia. This year’s harvest starts three weeks earlier than last year, similar to nearby wine-growing regions such as Hungary and Slovakia. This year’s vintage will be significantly complicated, mainly due to the uneven ripening of the grapes caused by unfavourable climatic conditions during the year. “This year’s harvest looks promising for us, we are already harvesting varieties such as Muscat of Moravia and Müller Thurgau,” said Petr Ptáček, director of the Habánské sklepy winery, which is part of the BOHEMIA SEKT group. It is favourable that thanks to the early harvest date, winemakers will have more time to process and prepare the traditional St. Martin’s Day wines, which are released for sale on 11 November.
